Student Services & Counseling

Edgewood focuses attention on the worth and growth of every student, and our counselors are crucial to maintaining that commitment to nurturing individual students’ unique strengths. School counselors assist students through educational challenges, provide a structured 4-year plan of vocational, college and personal counseling, and involve parents in the progress of their children.

EHS assigns each student to a counselor before the start of his or her freshman year; students typically remain with the same counselor throughout their high school experience.

Counseling Services

Our caring staff is here to support students in every aspect of their education; whether it's determining what college to apply to, career to consider, or for emotional support, we're here to help.

We offer class meetings for our upperclassmen to present students with information about planning and provide group guidance sessions and FIT for our freshmen students.

Academic Support

Our department and counselors are equipped to support the needs of our students at all learning levels. We take care to learn about the latest legislation and benefits available to those who require special attention, and we work closely with parents to meet these requirements. We also provide opportunities for students who require a more challenging educational experience with Advanced Placement courses. Learn more about what we offer on our Academic Support page, where you can also find suggestions for Summer Enrichment Opportunities.

College Counseling

Students at EHS have access to a comprehensive college counseling program. Our counselors work closely with students to ensure they take the appropriate courses and tests to qualify for the college they wish to attend. Stop by our College Counseling page for in-depth information regarding our program and to research current scholarship opportunities.

Non-College Career Options

While we are a college-prep high school and encourage our graduates to go on to college, we know that it is not for everyone. We work with students to identify alternative options, and pursue the path that's right for you.

Career Exploration

We recognize that every student has his or her own set of goals and aspirations upon leaving high school. We work closely with students to help them identify their interests and to provide them with information designed to steer them in the right direction to achieve these goals.

Each year, students experience exposure to various interest inventories, career related activities, and portfolio building through the career cruising program. Counselors integrate the results of these tasks into their student meetings relating to course selection, college advising, and post-secondary planning.

On a monthly basis, we highlight an occupation path through our career of the month program. We inform students of the skills, education level, and coursework relevant to succeeding in a career, as well as information on top colleges/universities, job growth rates and income related information. The end of each month involves a group job-shadow field trip to a local organization, which allows interested students of all grades an opportunity to see a professional from that career in action.

Lastly, student have access to a career networking opportunity database with contact information of Madison area professionals who have offered their expertise and knowledge in their career field to help Edgewood students on an individual basis. Students can use the database to connect with professionals in field of interests for advise, consultation, day long job-shadow opportunities, or potential internship positions.

"We are Edgewood" Students of the Month

Each month, Student Services recognizes students who are living the Edgewood values and mission. Please check out the “We are Edgewood” bulletin board outside the Student Services Office and watch for them to be announced in the weekly electronic newsletter to parents, The Inside Edge.
